It's always nice to see films about Filipino fantasy legends and one of my fave is 'Ibong Adarna'. Now, an indie film starring Rocco Nacino will retell the fantastical myth of this magical bird. 'Ibong Adarna, the Pinoy Adventure' reimagined the popular pinoy story and is directed by Jun Urbano.
Sigasig (Rocco Nacino) must find the Ibong Adarna in order to cure his dying father but lots of obstacles will come his way before he can get to his destination. A friendly kid and a beautiful fairy will guide him and help him fullfill his mission.
The movie is made for the kids. Never mind the acting and the old-school style of directing from direk Jun but 'Ibong Adarna' will make your kids happy and educated about Filipino mythical stories, enough with those tablet games and PC gamings, it's time to bring your kids to watch something educational and inspirational. In all fairness, the film has nice CG effects, it doesn't look cheap and time constrained. The film's choice of locations are all good, nice sceneries and views are something to expect in this film. One downside of 'Ibong Adarna' is it's production design, it is inconsistent, there were times that it looked nicely done but sometimes it looked less, also the outfits are not soothing to look at. But another thing to look forward in watching 'Ibong Adarna' is the Adarna itself, I liked how they designed the bird in this one. The scenes between Leo Martinez and Benjie Paras will give you lots of laughs, a great comic relief. There are no shortage of shirtless Rocco in this film and I also liked his intense fight scenes on the bridge.
Over-all, 'Ibong Adarna' is a nice watch especially for the kids, if you're looking for a movie that you can bring your children to, this is the one for you. It will entertain them and educate them at the same time. 'Ibong Adarna, the Pinoy Adventure' is now showing!
